It's the big finale! The last race of the year plays out in front of 1,000 spectators at the Suds'n'Snow Microbrew Festival. We wrap up winter, the series and the points picture with one of the fastest, coolest races of the season.
The course will be a welcome reprisal of the Fat Camp! race from 2012. A flat, fast circuit makes the day play out like a fat bike criterium, complete with primes from Einstein Cycles, Short's Brewing Company and more. Watch for some of the fastest average speeds in fat bike history, as well as up-close-and-personal racing between the giants of Northern Michigan fat bike racing. With tight scoring this year, it shouldn't be much of a surprise if there's till everything to play for in the Men's and Women's points standings.
Last year's Beard of Zeus was one of the most entertaining races we've ever had. A lead group of almost 15 riders survived the opening laps together, with riders attacking and countering all the time, especially into the technical and treacherous descent of Mount Von Poo. The group splintered late, with Rick Wetherald and Joel Polisky finally finding some daylight and going 1-2 to the line. The race title came down to a sprint for third place, with Ryan Kennedy taking it on the line, and keeping the title for a second consecutive year!
The course is just over 3 miles in length, with racers putting in as many laps as possible in 90 minutes for the Long race and 45 minutes for the Short's race. Come by the start/finish at 1:29:59, and you can keep going! Come by at 1:30:00, and you're done.
Registration and Day-of: 10-11.45am$50 pre-registration. Add $10 for day-of registration.
