Traverse City Area Public Schools LEAP Program 2016-17

TCAPS Learning, Enrichment, and Athletic Program (LEAP) provides increased opportunities for engagement beyond the school day through educational and recreational activities to improve learning, health, and wellness . The mission of the Learning Enrichment and Athletic Program is to support successful academic achievement for all students through extracurricular athletic and enrichment opportunitites. Each student who registers and pays to participate in athletic and/or recreational activities offered through LEAP will be ensured access to available programming. LEAP program offerings range in cost from $20 to $200 per activity based on age level for which it is offered, length of season, equipment needs, cost of instruction, etc. TCAPS has worked to keep participation costs as reasonable as possible as the program would not be sustainable without participation fees. Participants, coaches, parents, and spectators are expected to demonstrate the highest degree of sportsmanship at all times.

The TCAPS LEAP Program serves students aged Pre-K to 8th Grade. Activities range from a variety of athletic offerings (basketball, football, flag football, volleyball, wrestling, tennis, track, cross country, pitching clinics, cheer, softball, martial arts, junior roller derby) to enrichment opportuntities such as art, drama classes and robotics. All LEAP activities are held outside of the regular school day. All transportation to and from LEAP activities, practices and contests is the sole responsiblity of the parent unless otherwise specified at the time of registration.

2016-2017 Sports Physical Requirement
All 6th, 7th & 8th grade students must have a physical dated on or after April 15, 2016, on file prior to the start of their sports season. The physical form gives TCAPS representatives the ability to authorize treatment in case of a medical emergency. Once on file, sports physicals are good for one school year. Registration for all LEAP activitites is open now and closes approximately 2 weeks prior to the start of the offering. Registration deadlines are final. Late registrations may not be accepted after the posted registration close date depending on the offering. Any late registrations that are accepted are subject to a late registration fee of $25.00. Full scholarships are not available for any LEAP offerings. Reduced rates are available to those who qualify for the free/reduced meal program for select offerings. 

REFUND POLICY: All refunds must be requested within 1 week of the start of the offering. All approved refunds will be assessed a $5.00 transaction fee to be taken out of the refunded amount. Proof of payment will be necessary to issue refund.  Please call 933-1758 to request your refund. 

Game/Practice Cancellation: In the event of a cancellation of a LEAP contest, the LEAP Office
will provide as much advance notice as possible. Such a cancellation will be posted on the
LEAP website and an announcement will be made at school. If a coach must cancel a practice date, he or she will be responsible for notifying his or her players .
In the event of a school closing, no LEAP activities will be held per TCAPS policy . There is no guarantee of a make-up contest in the case of inclement weather . Missed contests will only be made up if schedules allow.
